rhythmdesign
rhythmdesign is an architectural design studio based in Fukuoka, southwestern Japan, led by Kenichiro Ide (born in 1978). Since its founding in 2004, the studio has engaged in projects and research related to architecture and the city, working across a wide range of scales—from design events and private commissions to public facilities and collaborations with national brands.
At the heart of our practice lies placemaking rooted in the uniqueness of each environment.
Beginning with research processes such as interviews, workshops, and field studies, the studio uncovers local challenges and latent potential. It sees context, history, and the aspirations of people not as things that reside within the designer, but as qualities embedded in the environment and its community. The work of rhythmdesign emphasizes carefully interpreting, structuring, and transforming information into forms, colors, and spaces—an act akin to “architectural translation.” This approach lies at the very core of the studio’s identity.
