oval, square, hillside, set
A continuation of my ongoing exploration of “textiles without front or back,” this work challenges the inherent directional constraints of conventional flat fabrics. By embracing what is usually considered a flaw—fading or misprint—as a positive expression, I apply printing from the reverse side as well, allowing blurred and solid areas to coexist.
This piece questions the very notion of color and pattern. In a modern era shaped by minimalism, it reexamines: What is ornament? What is richness? By dividing a plain surface into front and back, a pattern emerges simply from that separation. Further combining these generated forms, the work experiments with creating highly decorative expressions through what was once considered “plain.”
