Dried and uniformly processed wooden rods are commonly distributed as stable materials for models and furniture. In this project, however, rods are made using undried wood—either material left in the forest after felling or timber excluded during milling. Rather than suppressing the warping and deformation that occur during drying, the work treats this movement as an inherent material characteristic.

By introducing the instability of raw wood into an otherwise standardized industrial process, the project aims to design the plant-like behaviour that wood naturally possesses.

Yuma Nishida / OTHER DESIGN

Between manufacturers, brands, stores, distributors, and users lies a complex web of emotions and communication.

Design loses its true charm when these in-between, ambiguous spaces become stagnant.

OTHER DESIGN engages in design activities that gently and lovingly smooth out these subtle yet essential ambiguities, allowing design to flow and connect as it should.
