DESIGNTIDE TOKYO

fading memory

After 12 years, DESIGNTIDE TOKYO is making a comeback. It made me wonder, what happened to the works displayed 12 years ago?

Artists who present their works at exhibitions express their thoughts through their creations and experience a variety of reactions from viewers, which they can then channel into their next projects. While the exhibition period is gratifying, there's always been a lingering unease about the works that "remain" in storage afterward.

For this exhibition, I wanted to create something ephemeral—works that vanish after the show, leaving only fleeting memories. Fleeting Memory is imbued with fragility, as if it could disappear with a single breath or cease to function with the slightest disturbance. It operates by passing electricity through fine copper powder. The copper patterns are functional, but if the patterns are disturbed, the function disappears along with them.
